How to block Adult Websites

With Opal’s Never Allowed feature on iOS, you may choose to block Adult Websites in two different ways - permanently or on a limited basis. To implement the permanent block on Adult Websites, first ensure you are on the newest version of the app here. Once that’s complete, please take these steps:

  • Open the Opal app

  • Tap on the "My Apps" tab

  • Tap on “Never Allowed”

  • Enter your iPhone Passcode

  • Ensure “Adult Websites” are toggled on

  • A screen will appear that states “Block Adult Websites?”

  • When initiated, this will block adult websites 24/7 across your browsers and will also disable private browsing

  • If desired, toggle on “Hard Mode”

  • Warning: this will be indefinitely blocked. The only way to bypass this is by using your Emergency Pass.

  • Please note that “Hard Mode” Adult Blocking is an Opal Pro feature

  • Tap and “Hold to Commit”

Once that's complete, Adult Websites and apps will be permanently blocked, and this will supersede any Schedule, Time Limit, Open Limit, and your Always Allowed list.

I would like to block Adult Websites only during specific times on iOS!

To block Adult Websites during specific periods of the day or to limit your usage throughout the day, you may add any Adult Website or app to a Schedule, Time Limit, or Open Limit. Alternatively, you may set up an Adult Website blocking Schedule using the “Allow Only” function. If you opt to do this, only the apps or websites you select will be available during your Rule, and everything else will be blocked. To do so, follow these steps:

  • Open the Opal app
  • Tap on the "My Apps" tab
  • Tap on “+New”
  • Tap on “Schedule”
  • Tap on “Selected Apps”
  • Tap on “Allow Only”
  • Select which apps you must access while your Schedule is live
  • Tap on the checkmark icon in the top right corner
  • Complete your Schedule setup
  • Tap and “Hold to Commit”

Your new Rule is now live!

I need access to Adult Websites, but I turned on “Hard Mode”! Now what?

If you’ve enabled “Hard Mode” on Adult Websites, you must use your Emergency Pass to disable the rule. To access your Emergency Pass while in a “Hard Mode” Adult Block, take these steps:

  • Tap on “Home”
  • Tap on “Profile” (accessible from the top right corner)
  • Tap on “Settings” (accessible from the top right corner)
  • Scroll down and tap on “Emergency Pass”
  • Tap and hold on “Hold to Redeem”

Once that’s complete, you must immediately follow these steps to disable the rule:

  • Tap on “My Apps”
  • Tap on “Never Allowed”
  • Enter your iPhone Passcode for Opal
  • Tap the Toggle to disable Adult Websites
  • “Hold to Commit” (for about 30 seconds)

That should allow you to exit your “Hard Mode” Adult Websites block.
