How to choose your Notifications

To assist with your screen time goals and remind you to use the app, Opal has multiple "Notifications" options on the iOS version of the app. To access this feature, follow these steps:

  • Open the Opal app on your iOS device
  • Tap on "Home"
  • Tap on "Profile" (accessible from the profile icon in the top right corner)
  • Tap on "Settings" (accessible from the gear icon in the top right corner)
  • Tap on "Notifications" and enable in your device Settings

After you allow Notifications for Opal in your phone Settings, you may then toggle on or off multiple types of Notifications within Opal. They include:

  • Reminders: Get notified to turn on Opal when we haven't seen you in a while.
  • Service: Get notified when your Rules activate or when your Timer is over.
  • Unblock Reminders: Get notified when your unblock is over.
  • Screen Time Reports: Get updates about your daily screen time.
  • Milestones: Get notified when you unlock a new Milestone.
  • Friends: Get notified about your friends in Opal.
  • Time Limits: Get notified when you reach a Time Limit.
  • Streaks: Get notified about your Streak progress.
  • Marketing: Get notified about promotional offers and discounts.

I want to disable Notifications from all of my apps on my iOS device

If you're interested in reducing the number of Notifications you receive from other apps on your iOS device, you will need to exit Opal and navigate to your device "Settings" - "Notifications." Once there, you may customise your Notifications for the apps installed on your iOS device. For more information, please head here.

I want to receive Notifications for an app on my iOS device that is in a Schedule, Time Limit, or Open Limit! Why don't you have that option?

It is intentional design that any app subjected to an active Schedule, Time Limit or Open Limit is unable to send you Notifications. You'll need to wait until that Rule ends to receive Notifications from that app.

I am receiving way too many Notifications! What is happening?

Unfortunately we discovered a bug in an early version of Opal that was resulting in too many notifications being sent to our customers! To ensure you are sent only the Notifications you'd like to receive, please update the app to the newest version here. Once that's complete, see if you continue to receive too many notifications. If so, take these steps:

  • Navigate to your Settings > Notifications to toggle on and off which Notifications you prefer
  • Navigate to your Settings > Autofocus > Intervention Frequency and ensure that is set to "Low". Also toggle off "Speedbump!"

If you continue to receive unwanted Notifications after making those changes, please contact our Support team in-app with screenshots of what you're seeing.
