How to delete your account and the Opal app

We're sorry to see you go! If you're deleting your account or the app because something is going wrong with the app functionality, please alternatively consider contacting Support. If you're deleting Opal to exit a rule, please avoid doing so! Instead use your Emergency Pass to regain access to apps or websites. Otherwise, deleting your account and deleting the app itself is easy.

How do I delete my Opal account on iOS?

Before deleting your account, you'll want to ensure all your Rules are cancelled (and may cancel them using your Emergency Pass, if necessary). You'll also want to ensure that all the foolproof methods that you've implemented on your account to make it harder to bypass Opal are disabled. Once all Rules and foolproof methods are cancelled, here's how to delete your account:

  • Tap on "Home"
  • Tap on "Profile" (accessible from the top right corner)
  • Tap on "Settings" (accessible from the top right corner)
  • Tap on "My Account"
  • Scroll down and tap "Delete My Account"
  • Tap and "Hold to Delete"
  • You'll see the word "Done" appear
  • You will be prompted to sign-in/sign-up once more after your account is deleted

❗ Deleting your account is permanent and irreversible.

How do I delete the Opal app on iOS?

Once all your Rules are cancelled, you may delete the Opal app. To do so, follow these steps:

  • Exit the Opal app
  • Long press on the app icon
  • Tap "Remove App"
  • Tap "Delete App"
  • Input your "Screen Time Passcode" (if that feature is enabled)

❗ If your device has a Screen Time Passcode enabled, you must input your Screen Time Passcode to successfully delete Opal.

I still can't delete the Opal app! What's happening?

If you're unable to delete the Opal app, this issue may be related to Apple, rather than Opal. To sort it out, please follow these steps:

  • Exit Opal
  • Navigate to your "Settings"
  • Tap on "Screen Time"
  • Tap on "Content & Privacy Restrictions"

There, you must ensure that your "Content & Privacy Restrictions" button is toggled to Off. Once that button is toggled to off, you should be able to delete the Opal app.
