If you’d like to refer your friends or family to use Opal, you may do so to earn rewards within the app! Here’s how to invite your friends or family to use Opal:
- Tap on “Home”
- Tap on “Profile” (accessible from the top right corner)
- Tap on “Settings” (accessible from the top right corner)
- Tap on “Share Opal”
- Tap on “Share Invite”
Once your brand new referee redeems their code, your referee will receive a free 30-day trial of Opal Pro. After you’ve successfully had five referees sign up for Opal via your code, you will then be gifted a free year of Opal Pro.
In order for a referral to be credited to your account, your referee’s must use your referral link or code to create a new, unique Opal account on their own device. They must also be a brand new signup to the app. Our system checks that the account has been created on a new device and on a new account, and if not, the referral will not be credited to your account.
Why am I unable to collect my referral reward?
Currently, it’s not possible to collect a free year of Opal Pro while on an existing trial or subscription, as our system is not able to stack subscriptions. That said, when your current trial or subscription runs out, that referral reward offer will become available again. At that point, you are welcome to collect it. In the meantime, if you are currently on a trial of Opal Pro, you are welcome to cancel it using the instructions here. Once that’s complete and your trial/subscription ends, that referral reward should become available once more.
How do I redeem my referral code for Opal Pro?
If a friend or family member has invited you to use Opal, you may input your referral code after you’ve onboarded to Opal to enjoy a free 30-day trial of Opal Pro. Only new signups are able to redeem these codes. To correctly accept your 30-day trial referral code, ensure you do not sign up for any alternate trials of Opal Pro while onboarding to the app, or you will be unable to redeem your referral code. Once onboarding is complete, please follow these steps to accept your 30-day trial:

- Tap on “Profile” (accessible from the top right corner)
- Tap on “Settings” (accessible from the top right corner)
- Tap on “Enter Referral Code”
Please note that if you do not follow the exact steps outlined above, it is not possible to redeem a referral credit. Additionally, if you do not follow the exact steps outlined above, it is not possible for the person who referred you to use Opal to receive a referral credit for inviting you.
‼️ If you are a previous signup who has already done trials of Opal Pro and you accept a referral trial, you may be immediately charged by Apple for an annual subscription. This is a known Apple limitation. For this reason, only brand new signups to Opal are advised to redeem referral codes.
How do I see my Friends Screen Time on Opal? Where is the Leaderboard?
The newest version of Opal does not yet support the leaderboard feature or the Friends feature, sorry about that! That means that currently, you are not able to add friends or find friends; you are also currently unable to compete with them via the leaderboard. Instead, you are currently able to invite others to use Opal via the referral system outlined above. You are also welcome to redeem a referral code if you are a new signup to the app. That said, we aim to reintroduce social features in the near future. Stay tuned on that front!
